It's three jokes. It's also one truth. And the truth is the point.

LEGO: because the ego isn't some fixed, essential thing, it's assembled. Block by block, over years, from experiences and beliefs and defenses and identifications. The self you think of as "you" is more construction than discovery. The Lego metaphor earns its place because it's honest about that: it was built, which means it can be taken apart.

The Concept Unpacked

The ego, in the spiritual sense, is not the villain it's sometimes painted as. It's a necessary structure, the organizing principle of a coherent self, the thing that lets you function as a person in the world, get dressed in the morning, maintain continuity across time. The problem is when it calcifies. When the structure that was meant to serve you starts to run you. When identity becomes a defense rather than an expression.

The spiritual traditions that deal with this most directly, Buddhism, Advaita Vedanta, contemplative Christianity, Sufism, are unanimous on one point: the ego is not destroyed, it's seen through. The Zen master doesn't eliminate the self; they stop being fooled by it. There's a lightness on the other side of that recognition that's hard to describe in advance. The grip releases. The performance relaxes. The need to protect the story of who you are quiets down, and something more spacious shows up in its place.

"Leh Go" is Trinidadian dialect for let go, and dialect carries something academic language doesn't. It's warm. It's human. It has the ease of something said between people who actually know each other. The instruction to release the ego lands differently when it comes from that register: less like a prescription, more like encouragement from someone who's been through it.

The Eggo waffle reference rounds it out with the absurd, and the absurd is its own kind of spiritual technology. If you can laugh at the thing you're holding onto, you've already loosened the grip.
